Yes, do NOT read everything. Then you SURELY ARE INFORMED with all the facts and can
avoid going off half-cocked.

I did you the courtesy of reading your entire email even though it started with an insulting tone
(hell).

Why didn't you just politely introduce yourself and try to win them over with professionalism -
inviting them to see your work versus essentially telling them their website stinks?

You will fit right in with certain members of the EC.

Mike:

I am not venting my feelings, I am presenting the FACTS.

I am acting like a mirror so everyone can see what transpired and hopefully not
make the same mistake over and over.

I don't want to hear any excuses, justifications, flattery, innovative or
creative avoidance.  I deal in facts and only the
facts as Sgt Friday would say.

What was important to me when I use to work were, safety (the overriding
priority), quality, productivity, rule & regulations,
polices, procedures, processes, job descriptions and many other things.

I am not trying to inhibit you with coercive or restrictive motivators.  I
trying to constructively motivate where one wants to,
choose to, like it, love it type attitude.

You insult me with my request about the 6 viruses.  You are the leader of the
Association and it is your responsibility not mine
to get the information about the 6 viruses. Don't put the Monkey on my back
because you don't want to be accountable.

The ball is in your court.

Murry
I have been trying to handle this as nicely as possible. I am not the only person at fault in
this matter. I am sorry you are so easily insulted.
I dont like the statement who has the power now !! I have no access to the web site and
have no idea what or where the viruses were or are.
Now are you going to keep up this pissing game or are you going to release your hold on
the association web site.  We need to know asap

He can't even spell your name correctly.

You're not looking for "nice" just the EC doing their job correctly.

It blows my mind they they don't even read or understand what we are communicating to
them - the facts on what they didn't do and continue to fail to do.

Ron:

I hope you do take the time to read this…

I agree, you should not have had to wait so long.

Allow me to explain why Murray Gibbs has not sent you any website account information.
It has nothing to do with you personally.

Simply stated, he has a serious issue with how the 15th Med Assoc Executive Committee
(EC) has managed (or mis-managed) this entire affair, which has nothing to do with you.

I am a Past President of the Assoc and Murray was replaced this past Spring by the EC
as the Webmaster by Leo Williams.

Please know that Murray worked long and hard for many many years in trying to update
and maintain the website. He learned most of what he has in “bootstrap" fashion and
always tried his best. He would probably be the first to tell you about not just any
technical limitations that he may have, but also that our website is not the most elegant,
sophisticated, or modern. He was a volunteer (like all of us) and was always trying to
make it the best that it could be with his knowledge.

I am sure that you are a creative person and one who is very proud of his work. So, you
can well-imagine his reaction to essentially being told in the first email I had ever seen
from you that his baby is ugly.

All of that aside, since you have been copied in on the angst and controversy, and since
the EC saw fit to do that, you deserve to know more facts and what transpired (or what
should have transpired):

1. There were some members of the EC who did not want Murray to have a vote on the
EC because the Webmaster is an appointed versus elected position. That is a valid
opinion to hold, but the Assoc Constitution & By-Laws (C&BL’s) clearly states that any
proposed amendments to the C&BL’s should be submitted in writing at least sixty (60)
days in advance of the Annual Business Meeting with the rationale for why that
amendment is being made, i.e., its merits. This provision, along with the entire C&BL’s
was unanimously approved at the 2014 Annual Business Meeting in Sacramento. The
sixty (60) day written notice (a common provision in most organizations) is there to
ensure three things:

A) That the EC has time to carefully consider any changes to its C&BL’s, looking at the
issue from all reasonable angles so that they can make an informed recommendation to
the general members (their job).

B) To keep the Annual Business Meeting from getting bogged down in a "filibuster
manner" with individuals arguing about nuances, trivia, and wording preferences.

C) To prevent any emotional or not well thought-out amendments from being hastily
passed (which is what in fact happened).

(Interestingly enough, an individual from the floor cited another organization’s C&BL’s as
not having appointed officers being allowed to vote. The irony here is that the C&BL’s
cited almost assuredly had a similar procedure or waiting period for amendments.)

(Additionally, I am newly elected to the Executive Council of the 10,000 member VHPA
and I promise you that we have a very similar provision in the VHPA C&BL’s to guard
against those very same issues.)

2. The individual who replaced Murray had a clear history and track record of being
unable or unwilling to effectively carry out the office of Assoc President. He did not
convene quarterly EC meetings in between the reunions, he did not send out emails
keeping the EC informed, he did not produce quarterly “President’s Messages” to be
published on the website to keep the general membership apprised of Assoc activities or
the upcoming reunion, and he did not reply to emails sent to him. He claimed at one point
that his computer or his internet provider or both were down, broken, or being hacked.
This excuse went on for literally months. What self-respecting business person, or for
that matter the President of an Association, would not have gone out and purchased a
new computer, found a new provider, have taken out a new email address, and informed
everyone?

A) Murray and I found it amazing that no one on the EC could not have predicted that the
new webmaster would quickly be either out of his depth, or simply unable or unwilling to
perform his duties.

B) In June, I accidentally spilled coffee on my Mac through the speaker hole - essentially
rendering it totally inop inside 45 seconds. By that afternoon I had purchased a new Mac
and had a local geek take out the hard drive of the old computer and have all my files
transferred. I have a business to run and could not afford to be down more than a day.
The point is that when you have responsibilities, you do what it takes to be back up and
running.

C) Pat Haden, The current AD at USC is now under fire for not doing a thorough
background check before hiring Sarkisian as the football coach. He is under additional
fire (and rightly so) for not monitoring and being aware that his football coach was
violating school policy - essentially not doing a good job. You could say that the EC hiring
and monitoring of its new webmaster was and is just as sloppy.

Let us just suppose for a moment that Murray was ethically and professionally replaced.
Let us also suppose for a moment that the EC wanted to “go outside” and turn the
website over to a professional. What should that process have looked like?

1. The Assoc President (the AD if you like) should have announced with adequate
warning that an EC teleconference would be held. That announcement would have also
contained details on the meeting objective and any pertinent facts.

2. If, at the meeting the required quorum was achieved, the purpose of the meeting could
have been covered, a motion made and discussed at length, and a vote taken.

3. If the vote was to go outside, someone should have been appointed to look at options
(if not covered on the teleconference). Options in that should more than one vendor be
approached? Can we find a capable member inside to volunteer? What will this cost?
What specifically needs to be changed, improved, or updated on the website?

4. Let’s say that all those considerations were covered (and I know they were not);
Murray should have received an email from the Assoc President informing him of what
the EC has decided and what he is to do. He did not.

You intimated that you have been waiting two months for the information?!? That is
inexcusable.

Instead: It was only last week that I got a telephone call from Leo Williams out of the blue
asking me to ask Murray to transfer the password. Why would a Past President be
asking another Past President to do this (on the telephone)?

Why would I tell Murray to do this, if I do not possess all of the facts? That would be
irresponsible.

Then I received an email from the current President with the same request. No one else
on the EC was copied in. Again, why am I being sought out - I am not an EC member.
And with no one else on the EC copied, how do I know if this is a legitimate (voted upon)
request?

Nothing personal: I then began asking a lot of questions myself about who you were and
the conditions or agreement or understanding. Was there a contract or agreement? Were
you provided a list of expectations from the EC? Was a NDA necessary? Was this for
free or for a fee? If so, how much? Were you bonded? What happens if you cannot do
the job, or the EC is dissatisfied? Is there an exit strategy? Does there need to be one?

Some of those questions may apply, others not. But shame on anyone for not asking
them. It is the Association’s money, website, and reputation, not the EC’s alone.

The point is, and it has nothing to do with you, Murray was and is right to balk. If his
situation last Spring was slipshod, and his replacement was slipshod, how did Murray
know that this would not be the same old sloppy business?

And it is! Look at the crap, trash, acrimony, and accusations that you see that have flown
back and forth because no one thought this through or had the common sense to make
sure that things were done logically and thoroughly.

Ron, I am all for progress, a better website, and doing the right thing in the best interests
of the Assoc.

You would have thought by now that the President (who decided to involve me) would
have secured the answers to the questions asked and gotten this thing back on track for
all concerned. There is leadership, owning up to a screw-up, and setting things right,
and, there is allowing the situation to worsen, wallow, and widen.

We must look like the "Keystone Kops" to you.

I truly hope that all turns out well.

But, I am not in charge.

Ron:

How do you know you have been on the WWW before anyone in the 15th Med
Association?  This ISSUE is not about comparing website to website.  I took it
over in 2006 and knew nothing about websites.  I have corrected so many problems
in the beginning because nobody had any brains to do so.

I have written programs for General Motors that have saved them hundreds of
thousands of dollars.  I was a gaming clan leader and used to write maps that
not only our clan like but the gaming community like and requested to use them.
SO What!

This issue here is that 15th Med Association Executive Committee did not do the
right thing.  The EC should have contacted me first about a transfer, but they
didn't do that, you did.  So I called you to clarify and understand what was
going on.  Then I found myself about to do the leadership thing again.  I see
myself being the Enabler for the incompetent because those leading the 15th Med
Association are not taking control.

The ball is in Mike's court.
